MANAGERS RUDE RESPONSE TO GIVING A RUNNER TAP WATER:

I know the Manager of Charlie's through a mutual friend, as we use to eat here regularly when we lived in Durban. I therefore have been comfortable to stop there on odd occasions to ask for water during my runs when I visit Durban over the holiday season. I’m a regular runner over the holiday time and the manager clearly has gotten touched about me stopping for tap water. I have maybe stopped a total sum of 4 times ...and over the last two runs I have gotten a snarky comment. Today I had the wise words of “why do you only stop here for water ? Because you know nobody else will give it to you?” She then proceeded to lean over to her friend and start whispering - in complaint no doubt. In response to this ...I will stop by and pay her R100 for her “hospitality”. Moreover, I’m sure the guys at Vida (next door) are more than happy to support local runners with a water stop - they are always so friendly when I do stop there. When questioned about her encounter with me, the manager claims that she would be more than happy to give me water if we actually supported her business. This is already a shocking response because basically unless money is going into her pocket, no kindness and general moral decency should be anticipated nor expected. Also, it confirms that she was in fact irritated with my water stops at her establishment. In response it was mentioned that my father in fact has coffee there often during the week - regularly supporting her local business, which she is well aware of. She then sings a different song and states that she knows me well and was making a joke and proceeds to laughs it off sarcastically...Clearly a pathetic cover up. It's disgusting to know that a lady running this business would be so petty over a glass of TAP WATER. According to my morals and values this goes against the fundamentals of basically being humane. I have never had this issue before at any other establishment that I have stopped at in any location that I have run. I have never had this issue because it's just **** to be snarky about giving someone water, and because it is common to give runners water!!!! At least she doesn't have to display her frustration anymore, because I will no longer stop there and I am sure my family will no longer eat there. To think I was deceived about her character all these years when I was living in Durban and eating there regularly. To think I supported a business that counts their pennies right down to their TAP WATER.
