Champagne cottage carnage
Unfortunately I did not even want to give this place a 1 star but that's the only way to give a review. So my family and i saw this place online..everything looked amazing so we booked it. Time had come and we went along for our holiday at champagne cottages. It was quite difficult to get into the place but it was not a major issue as we just wanted to get there. The lady who i had liaised with via email and telephone Nikki greeted us at reception and showed us our "cottage" which was the Guinea fowl cottage. Our first impression of the outside of the place was that it was not well kept and quite an old building but nevertheless we brushed it off and went inside after nikki left. Once we entered we were horrified, the place was not kept at all. One would wonder if anyone stayed there at all. The walls and ceilings had water damage which happened over time as the walls had bubbles and paint had been peeling. Each bedroom ceiling had mould patches on them, one ceiling even had a mould patch that eventually started turning into a hole. The bathrooms were absolutely terrible. The toilets were so old and had stains that looks like it had never been properly cleaned over time. The tubs were dirty...the walls in the bathroom had small mould like patches all over. There were spider webs in the corner of the tubs, we did not even feel like using the bathrooms at all. As foe the lounge area...the carpet was so dirty they had big dirt patches on the carpet. The whole house had such a bad smell.
This was absolutely not what we had paid for at all..the pictures and what we got were totally different. So we went to reception to inform nikki of the condition of the place. Firstly she was absolutely rude..she had told me that she "had a feeling that i would be trouble" from the time i booked because I had made an advance booking which is utter nonsence. Then she went on to say that we must remember what we are paying for the cottage. So we had asked her if we could see the other cottages to see if it was different to which she refused. Then nikki started arguing with us after we told her about the house condition saying that we should not let the small things worry us as we are on holiday. It was not a small thing as it was a matter of hygiene which is quite relevant no matter where you go. We paid foe the holiday and we expect the place that we are staying in to be well kept and clean. We also had kids with us and this was not an environment to be in. The roofs outside was stuffed with newspaper and get next to our building was a broken down room type of structure which had rubble in it. I mean how do u expect people to stay at a place like this.
Eventually we had to look for another place to stay at and it was getting dark so we had to stay just for the 1 night so we can go looking the next day for a place to stay. Nikki only gave us a 50% refund which I think is unfair. The price to stay there for a night is about R1400 per night which apparently was the wrong rate nikki charged us and it shud have been R1800...which as per her words would not even get us into a campsite. This was so frustrating....we were just waiting to get out of the place. I would never recommend this place to anyone at all as besides the terrible service, this place is such a health hazard.
