My Nightmare Experience with Haval – A Year Without a Reliable Car Under Warranty

I bought into the Haval brand believing in its promise of reliability and customer service. Instead, I have been living a nightmare for almost a year — and I want other consumers to know exactly what they are getting into.

My problems started in September 2024 when my Haval broke down just after I relocated to Cape Town. It turned out that during the last service (at a different dealership), the spark plugs weren’t changed properly and two different brands had been fitted. This caused a misfire. Reeds N1 City Haval replaced the plugs, but the misfire didn’t go away.

By November 2024, I was told the issue was with the cylinder head. My car then spent 12 weeks in the workshop while the engine block and cylinder head were replaced under warranty. During this time, despite being newly relocated and without transport, I was denied a courtesy car for months. I only got one in January 2025 after begging.

When my vehicle was finally returned in March 2025, I drove less than 500 km before the exact same misfire came back. Yes, the exact same problem after a brand-new engine.

From there, things only got worse. In June 2025, a mechanic confirmed the misfire again — cylinder 4. He even ruled out coils and plugs, concluding it was likely an injector fault. I was told injectors were being ordered and would arrive in “a maximum of 4 weeks.” That was months ago.

Now, at the end of August 2025, I am being told a completely different story: that the injectors weren’t ordered after all. Instead, a long drawn-out process of fuel sampling, testing, and independent injector analysis must happen first. Nobody communicated this to me until I chased for answers. In fact, on 21 August 2025, I was promised a call to arrange the fuel sample. Nobody ever called.

Meanwhile, my vehicle is getting worse by the day. The misfire is so severe it feels like the car is starving for fuel. It’s now almost undriveable, and I fear it will sustain permanent damage while I continue to pay instalments for a car I cannot use.

And as if that wasn’t enough, when my engine was replaced earlier this year, I was never issued with a police clearance certificate. Without it, I’ve been unable to renew my licence disk since April 2025. I am now months behind on licence fees — costs that I shouldn’t have to bear, all because of the dealership’s negligence.

I have lost faith completely in Reeds N1 City Haval and in Haval South Africa. I have been ignored, misled, and left stranded. My warranty still runs until 2026, yet my car has been virtually unusable for a year.

I am sharing this here because I believe other consumers need to see what is happening. Haval’s after-sales service is failing, their dealerships are not held accountable, and customers like me are left paying for vehicles that sit broken.

This isn’t just “teething problems.” This is systemic negligence — and unless Haval steps in, I will continue to shout my story on every platform available so others around the world can see how this brand treats its customers.
