Lack Of Ownership

My Vehicle was serviced at Mcdulings VW on in November last year. It underwent a major service at the time. This year November the vehicle went for a annual service at VW Hatfield in Pretoria. The service advisor informed us that the oil sump thread was stripped and that they could not continue with the service as the drain plug could not be tightened and would result in an oil leak.

VW Hatfield completed a report indicating that the fault as well as pictures of the damage. The drain plug was tightened with silicon to overcome the problem (This picture was also presented to VW Mcdulings as proof.

My problem is that the vehicle has only ever been serviced by VW dealerships and as it stands not Mcdulings or VWSA wants to take responsibilty for the problem.

I ended up paying to repair the damage caused by Mcdulings at the last service. The workshop manager at Mcdulings stated that because it been over a year and there were no complaints, it not his responsibilty. That to me is a weak response which VWSA accepted. The vehicle is serviced annually due to the low kilometers covered annually and therefore would be unreasonable to expect us to be aware of the problem. Secondly, due to silicon used to keep the drain plug from leaking oil, its obvious no sign in between services were evident.
