My wife is the primary driver of the car which was serviced on Wednesday. Imagine my surprise when I put my 19 month daughter in the child seat this morning only to discover that the seatbelt which keeps the child seat in place has been unclipped. I noticed that the rear seats had been tilted forward. I asked my wife to which she said that was the way it was after the service. To tilt the rear seats forward one would have to disengage the seat belt holding the babyseat in place as it has a rigid frame. I can assume that since the service technicians have no reason to work on the re****at that it could have happened during cleaning. What concerns me is that while the service could have been done correctly, certainly disengaging a child seat is a serious safety risk. I can say this not only as a father but as an expert having worked 12 years in the automotive quality sector, specifically in the occupant restraint system i.e. manufacture of seatbelts & airbags. I have worked on projects with GM South Africa & Australia in the past & I have first hand knowledge of how seriously they take safety, so I will be interested to see what kind of response I get to this.
Dear Kevin Brown
REEDS N1 service centre would like to take this oppertunity to firstly offer our sincere apologies from the Service Management .
Please be assured that we take vehicle safety as a top priority and are constantly monitoring workmanship processes to ensure we hand a vehicle back to customers in a satisfactory condition.
We have taken this situation up with our cleaning company and also with the workshop management to sharpen the mind-set of ensuring that we deliver the service that is expected of us. I have discussed the potential consequences with all involved.
Kindest regards,
Johan Smal
