Century Property Developments cheating on m² calculations in order to return less deposit

November 2018 I moved out of Carlswald Luxury Apartments, which I rented from Century Property Developments. The outgoing inspection was done and I expected some amount to be deducted from my deposit for painting walls etc.

I did not expect a supposedly professional outfit like Century Property Developments to cheat on the m² they claimed. Something looked wrong on the numbers they send me and when questioning the numbers, I was told it’s not debateable, basically a Fu@k you attitude. Extract from Nick: “We unfortunately won’t agree to meet you to discuss this further as the matter is not up for debate. The figures are correct and are explained below”.

I then proved Nick wrong by sending the following email and they eventually agreed: From Me: “I find it hard to believe that one wall in the garage, according to your calculation, is about 7.69m high by 6m in length, which will get you 46 odd m². The standard garage size is in the region of 2.4m in height by 6m in length, making one wall 14.4 m² and not 46 m², and at your cost of R40.25 p/ m² relates to an overcharge of R1271.9, and that’s just for the garage”.

They did this cheat calculation on all the agreed walls and I’m still out of pocket….

Be careful, don’t trust these guys…
