I Would Not Advise Anyone to Stay at Central Developments (The Junction)

I would not advise anyone to stay at Central Developments (The Junction) based on my experience.

I was issued with two grievances. I acknowledged the first infringement and remain willing to settle it. However, the second grievance was disputed, as I had already paid the rental amount in question. This was communicated to management, yet no proper investigation or resolution was provided.

I was subsequently evicted. I did not dispute the eviction, as I had already decided to exit the lease due to ongoing concerns. However, this should not be interpreted as acceptance of the disputed charges, which remain unresolved.

Despite this, I have been receiving SMS communications stating that I am in arrears for a fine that I am already addressing. This is both inaccurate and unprofessional, and it raises concerns about how tenant accounts are being managed.

In addition, I have been made aware that there appears to be inconsistency in how infringements are app**** and resolved across tenants, which raises concerns around fairness and transparency in the enforcement of house rules.

Furthermore, I personally arranged and paid the maintenance team (independently) to paint my apartment prior to my exit. The apartment was left in good condition, and during the exit process it was agreed that I would only be charged R350 for cleaning.

However, despite this agreement, an additional R1000 was deducted without any explanation or breakdown being provided. No prior communication was given regarding this extra charge, and I have not been informed of what it relates to, despite requesting clarity. This lack of transparency around the final deductions is concerning, particularly given that a prior agreement had already been confirmed during the exit inspection.

Furthermore, an amount of R1000 was deducted via Smart Meter (electricity provider) without my clear consent or a proper explanation being provided. There was no transparent agreement in place explaining this deduction, nor how it was calculated.

To make matters worse, my electricity was disconnected without any prior notice. I returned home to find myself without power, forcing me to make payment under pressure just to restore basic services — while the dispute was still ongoing. This is completely unacceptable.

I have also become aware that other tenants have experienced similar issues, including abrupt electricity disconnections rather than structured communication or reasonable payment arrangements.

There is also a tenants’ WhatsApp group where other residents have encouraged me to formally dispute and escalate this matter legally. While I initially chose not to pursue this route, the ongoing issues — particularly inaccurate arrears communication, lack of transparency, and inconsistent enforcement — have caused me to reconsider.

Based on this experience, I would strongly caution anyone considering moving into this complex.
