Dishonest Rental Agency

Do yourself a favour and avoid renting an apartment from Route 82 Apartments, which is managed by Central Developments aka 2LetNow.

I rented an apartment from these people from April this year and when my circumstances changed, which is the case for most people this year, I submitted a notice to vacate. I stayed for 6 months with them and provided them with a full 30 day notice of my intention to move out, but on the day I was supposed to move out, I had to force them to come do an exit inspection. To make matters worse, after I moved out, I waited the 7 days prescribed by the Rental Housing Act to be refunded my deposit and accrued interest. After 10 days following my moving out, no deposit was refunded, so I emailed them and requested a copy of the statement reflecting the accrued interest as is my right in terms of the Act. A day later I received a reply that they are only going to refund the accrued interest because I terminated my lease early. Mind you, they found a tenant to move into the unit, so there is no financial loss. This is clearly a dishonest organization because had I not been aware that I am entitled to the accrued interest, it wasn't going to be paid out. I am planning to share my experience on every social media, including registering a request for assistance with the Housing Tribunal, Estate Affairs Board, and newspapers until they repay my deposit and cease such business practices.
