Celestyal Cruises disappoint
Someone suggested I post this on your platform so here goes: Almost a year ago, we took up a Black Friday special of a '2 for the price of one' cruise offered by a Cape Town based travel agency. The 3 - Continent cruise visiting Egypt, Israel, Turkey and other islands was offered by Celestyal Cruises in Greece. Once all our plans were confirmed we (6 people) paid a 30% deposit to the agency on 5 December 2019. Celestyal Cruises received the deposit 9 January 2020 and they proceeded to allocate cabins to us, as we had upgraded our booking. Then COVID19 happened. Early in June we were advised that Celestyal's general sales agent in south Africa, Perfect Destinations/Globus Family of Brands, had gone into voluntary liquidation which was sad, but we were confident that we could still cruise at a later date as the deposit was paid more than six month's prior. We then set about contacting Celestyal Cruises to request that they take over our booking and deal directly with us as we were still very interested in going on the cruise. As the agency had received their commission on the deposit that was paid over, we felt that there was no indebtedness to Perfect Destinations/Liquidators by the Cruise Liner. One of the T&C's seemed to support this: Item 4.5 ‘The Contract is concluded once the Deposit is received and accepted by the Company.’ The last email received from them was that the matter had been handed over to their Administration Department. As we have had no reply on any subsequent emails we sent, we feel as though they have dropped us like hot potatoes. Not good. Besides the loss of the cruise, we have bought and paid for all our flights and one night's accommodation in Greece. Thankfully, the flights can be re-routed or we can get vouchers. Booking.com have also been fantastic, because they have communicated and offered a change of dates. Everyone on the planet has been affected by the pandemic both health-wise and financially, so one would expect some form of compassion from service providers in the same way we have shown others. Celestyal Cruises, in their apathetic handling of our booking, have shown that they are not compassionate. Resultantly, I personally do not want to go on any of their cruises. And as far as the money they have taken of ours ..........what can I say? It would have been better to bless less fortunate people with it. The object of my rant is this: 1. We will never use a travel agent again - their handling of the situation was more than very disappointing. 2. We want to discourage anyone from cruising with Celestyal Cruises - their insensitivity and lack of communication is unacceptable. So, when the world opens up again for travel, I hope that travel service providers can hold their heads up and say that they acted appropriately and tried everything they could to hold up their sides of the bargain.
