Careful of Gift Vouchers here!

A caution to those considering buying gift vouchers here. When we tried to settle our bill using 2 X R400 birthday gift vouchers (R800), our waiter said he would need to ask the manager to sort it. Then a very stern manageress came over to our table and firmly told us that we were Not Allowed to use 2 gift vouchers to pay for our two dinners. Each voucher can only be used for ONE meal she announced loudly enough for the other diners to stare at us. And no, vouchers cannot be used to cover waiter’s tips either (understandably). There were other restrictions too she said, but had no answer to my feeble question as to why none of these restrictions appeared on their lovely gift cards. My bright 81-year-old husband then asked her for two bills - one for his meal and separate one for mine. And we each gave her our separate vouchers. Luckily we found some cash for our waiter’s tip. The two stars here are for our attentive waiter and for the chef’s excellent fish n chips!
