Why are Consumers forced to Disclose personal information in order to purchase items cash?

hellopeter. Since when are consumers forced to disclose their personal information in order to purchase something cash?

I was at Cash Converters Tokai on Saturday and was told to give my ID Number, physical address and cellphone number if I wanted to purchase the PS5 game my son was interested in. I didn't come to pawn anything, that would explain why I would have to disclose my personal information.

I just feel that how they conduct their business violates my right to me keeping my private particulars well, private.

Am i overreacting? I just felt my privacy was infringed upon to BUY an item. Cash. I say forced, as I was told I need to disclose my particulars if I wanted to purchase anything. What are your thoughts?
