Complaint about Cash Converters - East London

In July this (2016) i took out a loan of R1 200.00 and gave my Lenovo i5 Laptop as surety to Cash Converters and the principal amount owed to them totalled to R1 500.00. My first instalment was due on the 11th August and i paid R300 before the due date, another payment of R400.00 in September, R300 October and R800 in November 1st and the total balance in my slip was R400 for me to get my laptop which is due in December. I went there on the 3rd December to pay the balance of R400 that is due and i was told i still owe a R1020.00 and i was in shock and asked them how did the debt jump from R400 in less than 30 days to R1000, they told me that its the condition of the contract, which is very strange coz i never skipped a single payment and yet i had to pay so much, the owner of the store apologised and told me that it's a mistake from the staff members for not explaining to me how their loan works and offered me some movies which i turned down. all i need is my laptop coz i paid them more than what i owe and i feel i've been ******. I paid an interest of over 50% within 3 months which doesn't make sense. what's worse is that they are refusing to give me the records/invoices to show me the payments i made.

I would appreciate it if you could help me get my laptop back from these people.

Kind Regards

Noluvuyo Usman

Good day
Thank you for taking the time to lodge your complaint on the Hellopeter website.
I have sent your mail to the regional operations manager as well as the store manager. One of our guys will certainly get hold of you.
Please also accept my apologies for not replying sooner, but it seems that Hellopeter changed their interface and I was only able to get onto the site today.
Kind regards
