Cash Converters Ottery - Bad service/ Damage of property

Complaint regarding an incident that occurred at your store on Saturday (30 May 2026)

I visited Cash Converters with a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses that were in excellent condition and stored in their protective casing. Upon arrival, the staff member who eventually assisted me appeared disinterested and initially spent time conversing with a colleague before attending to me.

When she finally assisted me, her manner was abrupt and unprofessional. She seemed unsure of how to value the sunglasses and had to seek assistance from a colleague. The two of them then went to a back room for several minutes to determine a price. Upon returning, I was offered only R200 for the sunglasses, which I considered to be an unreasonably low valuation. I therefore declined the offer and took my sunglasses back.

Unfortunately, when I arrived home, I discovered that the frame of the sunglasses had been broken. Prior to bringing them into your store, the sunglasses were fully intact and in excellent condition. I have proof that the sunglasses were in good condition before my visit.

I immediately attempted to contact the store regarding the damage, but my calls went unanswered and I was unable to resolve the matter.

As a result of the damage caused while the sunglasses were in your staff's possession, the item has significantly decreased in value and can no longer be sold in its current condition. I believe it is reasonable to expect that customers' property be handled with care and returned in the same condition in which it was received.
