Amazing salesmanship - until they have your cash. Backup is, in my opinion, abysmal
I purchased a Ford Fairmont last Monday week,(15.5.2023) from the Carzuka Eastgate branch. The salesman was Christian. When we took the car for a test drive, it would not start. He told me that the reason that the battery was flat was that the car had been standing for a long period of time and that the interior roof light had been left on. He used a power booster to start. The car then ran fine. I asked about a guarantee and he told me that anything that was on the AA report was not covered. - the battery was not mentioned on the AA report.
I drove back to the farm and since then did not use it until yesterday when the battery was flat. I then put the battery on a charger and the car started immediately. This morning, I needed to go out but once again the battery was flat. I immediately phoned Christian and was told that there was nothing he could do about it as the brakes, battery etc were not covered as well in spite of no mention on the AA report other than it saying that it was not tested.
I am appalled at the follow up policy. Why would a "reputable" dealer allow a customer to pay cash for a vehicle and then refuse to accept responsibilitity when it does not run, especially when I was reassured that the battery was fine. Whilst I appreciate that the vehicle is old, routine consumables should be in working order and if not, a business needs to accept responsibility for selling a defective product. It seems to me that this is not within the intentions of the consumer protection act.
