Vehicle electronics damaged by Cartrack

In July 2024, I sent a complaint via email to Cartrack regarding damage to my vehicle caused by the tracking device that was installed. After taking my car for a service Volkswagen advised me that the Cartrack unit caused damaged to my vehicles electronics, and the battery to drain and cut out, after my wife have been stranded on the road numerous times in the last 3 months. I was advised that this would not be covered under my warranty and that any repairs would be out of pocket. Volkwagen then advised me to have the unit removed, as I did not have an active contract with Cartrack at this stage anymore. I reverted back to Cartrack informing them of the above and that I would keep them responsible for damages to my vehicle, the only reply I received was to take my vehicle to have the unit removed, as sending a technician to fix their faults would cost me a call out fee. I then proceeded to take my vehicle to Cartrack in Durbanville Western Cape on the 28th of May 2024 @ 10:40 am, for the unit to be removed. I proceeded to wait for an hour and 20 minutes while they worked on the removal. Afterwards, my vehicle was damaged worst than before, and I had to take it back to Volkswagen. The airbag warning was displayed permanently, most safety features of the vehicle malfunctioned and wires were so badly damaged that VW said it looked as if the vehicle had been to a panel beater for repairs after an accident. This again falls out of my warranty plan, and repairs would be for my account. VW worked on my vehicle for a total of 8 days, going through the wires to track the fault of what had been damaged. My vehicle has never been in an accident, it never missed a service, and it’s well looked after. The damage to my vehicle and the safety risk on my wife’s life is unacceptable. She drives my children to school in this vehicle, she got stranded on the side of the road with no assistance when the battery failed. There has not even been an apology letter from Cartrack.

As this was a safety risk, I had to pay to get my vehicle repaired and released from Volkswagen, due to the gross negligence of Cartrack’s unit and the manner of the installation that was done in my vehicle. When I went back to Cartrack in Durbanville to obtain a job card for the removal of the device, they could not even present the name of the technician/s that worked on my car when the unit was removed. Being without a vehicle whilst the repairs needed to be done, and having to pay for the repairs out of pocket with the lack of service has made this the worst experience. Still today….. no progress or update from Cartrack!!
