Unfair Charges and debt collection after contract ended
I opened an account with Cartrack and was told it was a 3-year contract. When the contract ended, they contacted me to offer a panic button service. I declined and explained that my car has engine problems and is parked at home, so there was no need for additional services. I requested that my contract be cancelled, but they insisted I pay a cancellation fee. I don’t understand why I should pay a cancellation fee when the original 3-year contract had already ended. Now they claim I owe R2800 and have handed my account over to debt collectors. I was never informed that my contract would automatically renew, and I received no warning before being handed over. I feel this is completely unfair and misleading. I have asked for proof of the renewal and a breakdown of the charges, but I have not received any clear explanation. This situation is causing me stress, especially since my car is not even in use. I would appreciate it if this issue could be resolved fairly and if my account could be cleared. I’m also considering reporting this matter to the National Credit Regulator and the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud.
