Misleading conduct and breach of the Consumer Protection Act

I recently installed a Cartack tracking device, and shortly after the installation, I received a call from one of their agents, Chifiwa Tavhakale. He claimed to be confirming my details and activating my device, but what he was actually doing was selling me an add-on product — without ever clearly disclosing it.

When I called Cartack to query this, their customer service agent Palesa Twala confirmed that the call was indeed from their representative. I explained that the call was deceptive and misleading, as I was never informed that I was agreeing to purchase anything. The entire approach felt intentionally structured to trick me into saying “yes” to something I didn’t understand.

This conduct is completely against the Consumer Protection Act, which requires honest communication and informed consent. Even when I questioned the “pro-rata” charge mentioned during the call, the agent gave an evasive response instead of a clear explanation.

I requested that Cartack cancel the product and refund my money, but they refused — claiming that I had “agreed” to the contract and that cancellation was done “at no cost,” so I wasn’t eligible for a refund. This reasoning makes no sense. It’s a dishonest and underhanded tactic that preys on unsuspecting customers. This kind of behaviour makes me question whether I can even trust Cartack to track my vehicle safely. If this is how they handle sales, what happens when there’s a real emergency?

I strongly urge Cartack to review this ********* behaviour, issue my refund, and stop misleading hardworking South Africans. If this is not resolved, I’ll be referring the matter to the National Consumer Commission (NCC) and other regulatory bodies.

It’s not about the money — it’s about principle and integrity.
