Exorbitant cancellation fees

Do yourself a big favour and do not contract with Cartrack.

They had a judgement go against them by the NCC. They were found guilty of charging exorbitant cancellation fees.

1. They charged me double the going rate and I made the mistake of not getting competing quotes 2. In April 2026 I discovered that I should be paying R129 pm per motorcycle instead of the R209 pm per motorcycle that Cartrack was charging me 3. I attempted to cancel and got threatened with cancellation fees of R2650 per vehicle, so I relented. I decided it was too much to pay and I continued begrudgingly paying them the R209 x 2 = R418 pm 4. In August 2026, they attempted to debit my account with R460 without letting me know they had increased my fees by 10% so they bounced. 5. I decided I had had enough and sent them cancellation notices via email. 6. I also did a search and found the NCC case that was decided against them. 7. Cartrack has done nothing but hound me incessantly every day, phoning me on a hourly basis from a massive pool of numbers that they use to harass people. 8. I have blocked so many numbers and yet they still have more numbers to use to call me. 9. As fast as I block them, they find new numbers. 10. I have sent them numerous emails to tell them to stop harassing me. 11. They have demanded the cancellation fees and sent me invoices. 12. After telling one Cartrack rep, Tsakani Mnisi, I was not paying, he responded with an email asking me when he could debit my account. 13. These people are not playing stupid, they are bombarding me incessantly and harassing me and threatening me with legal action most likely hoping I will cave to their unceasing pressure. 14. They completely ignore my instructions to cease phoning me. 15. I have told them to arrange for a technician to remove their trackers - this is simply ignored. They show no interest in recovering their GPS trackers. All they want to do is to either force me to pay them, or grab the money out of my account. 16. I know have to avoid using the bank account they have on record, lest they dip in and take money I have no intention of paying them, and if they manage to get my money, I will never get it back. These people will not cooperate. They will force me to sue them before they return the money I have told them they have no permission to take. 17. The bank itself offers me no remedy to stop them debiting my account. They have told me I must talk to Cartrack, which is an absolutely futile thing to tell me, since Cartrack is not interested in my wishes. They are completely focussed on taking my money without regard to my wishes. 18. Based on this experience, I will let you draw your own conclusions if you wish to deal with them or not. 19. I find it absolutely crazy that South African companies can behave like this. 20. When I signed up, I was told by them I was getting the best deal possible 21. They also neglected to tell me that they would not allow me to gracefully back out of the 3 year contract they insisted I must enter into, even though the CPA provides for a maximum of 2 years. 22. Cartrack never told me that cancelling carried a penalty of R2650 per motorcycle 23. In April 2026, they insisted I sign a cancellation form on which they included a clause that had me declare that I accepted their cancellation fee of R2650. 24. When I cancelled in August 2026, I refused to sign their cancellation form. I also refused their demands that I cancel telephonically. The CPA allows cancellation via email. 25. I consider my attempt to cancel in April as notice enough. I made my intentions clear that I no longer wished to use their service and they forced me against my will to continue by informing me I had no choice but to pay a cancellation fee which represented more than 12 months of monthly fees. So to cancel, I must pay them a whole year in advance and receive no service during that time period. That is the extent of their predatory business practices. 26. A reasonable cancellation fee is 1 calendar's months notice, with service included for the duration. Cartrack wants a whole year's worth of premiums and it will not be actually giving you any service for that entire time period. You pay them for a year, and you get nothing. 27. I honestly think the only way to remedy this company's business practices is to shut them down because despite getting a judgement against them, they have not change their ways at all. They just went straight back to doing what the NCC said they could not do. 28. This is a company that is devoid of any goodwill towards their customers.

Cartrack - good luck retaining loyal customers. You are not a solution, you have weaponised your tracking service as a means to grab cash from unsuspecting members of the public.
