CARTRACK POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

There should be a 0 star rating for this company.

During June last year, there was an advertising campaign through my car insurance company for a cheaper insurance premium if I drove my vehicle less than 500 km a month. I had been paying over R400 per month on my 19-year old Ford Ikon, so I accepted their offer to use Cartrack to monitor my mileage on a monthly basis. The appropriate mechanism was installed in my car during June, 2020.

All went well and I was saving about R100 on my insurance premiums until my vehicle was involved in an accident in May this year. My insurer wrote the car off. I requested Cartrack to remove the mechanism at the panelbeaters who were storing the car until the insurers arranged for its collection. This was so that I could have it re-installed in any vehicle that I buy before the contract with Cartrack ends in July, 2022. I didn't want to continue paying for the mechanism if the car was repaired and resold to someone else.

Cartrack offered to charge me R870.00 for the removal and reinstallation costs . A debit order arrangement for June, July and August was arranged for the 20th of each month until the full amount was paid off. Thus far, I have paid off R300 on 21st June and R300 on the 20th July, 2021. This leaves an outstanding amount to pay off on 20th August, 2021, after which the appropriate debit orders will be cancelled.

I was also informed by Cartrack that I would have to continue paying for the monthly premiums until the contract ends. They quoted a figure of R72.50 per month. Alternatively, I would have to pay R2130 if I wanted to terminate the contract now. (I find this strange if the car was written off.) So they get R72.90 for nothing for the next 11 months. It gets worse.

On Friday, 30th July, I received a curt SMS that there was still R290 outstanding. It was worded thus:

NOTICE: Your account remains in arrears (WAIT! WHAT?) in the sum of R290 which is immediately payable to Cartrack FNB Acc ***. ***. Tel: *** (end of message).

Needless to say, I was onto them immediately yesterday morning. I explained my concern. They told me that as I had already arranged to pay them over THREE months, they could not deduct the re-installation fee. That is unacceptable to me! I am going to have to pay for something in a car that doesn't exist in my possession. Furthermore, I won't be getting another car anytime soon because of my current family circumstances and a poor insurance payout

When I asked them why they were requesting the rest of the payment, considering an arrangement had been made, they blamed the system. (That's an age-old excuse from banks as well). I told them that they had a nerve to demand a second payment from me in July when the final one isn't even due until 20th August!

What's more, why had the final payment jumped from R270 to R290? They told me that they were charging R10.00 for each debit order! (That's new!) So, I am paying bank charges for them to deduct the money from my account! Why didn't they tell me that before I started paying them in June? They didn't mention anything about extra charges for the debit order deductions.

Cartrack also deducted R75.90 on the 20th July (which was to cover the increase from 1st July). So, instead of quoting R72.90 why didn't they give me the correct amount in their increase notification in June?

These people are beyond ***********. I like to know where I stand with service providers even if their service is beyond poor.

I am wondering what else they are going to come up with to try and milk me for more money.

Regards

Ruth
