CARTRACK HARRASSMENT OF PENSIONER

I am writing on behalf of my father, a pensioner, to formally raise concerns regarding his account and treatment by Cartrack. On 14 January 2020, my father entered into a 3-year contract with Cartrack, which was due to end on 13 January 2023. However, Cartrack continued to debit his account well beyond the contract expiry date. This only came to our attention in March 2025, when we noticed a lack of communication from your side. Upon contacting your team, we were informed that the contract had indeed expired in January 2023. When we questioned the continued debits, we received only a verbal apology, with no formal explanation or resolution. It is important to highlight that Clause 4.1 of the Cartrack contract clearly states: “Cartrack will, not more than 80 (eighty) days and not less than 40 (forty) days before the expiry of the Minimum Term option, notify the Client in writing or any other recordable form of the impending expiry date.” To date, my father has not received any such notification. Furthermore, on 10 April 2025, a new tracking unit was installed. By that time, my father had changed his vehicle’s number plate from GP to L. Since then, he has been charged twice monthly, once for each number plate, despite it being the same vehicle. Despite numerous attempts to explain this to your team, the double debits have continued. Due to the financial strain and lack of resolution, my father began reversing the duplicate debit orders through his bank. This has unfortunately led to repeated calls and harassment from Cartrack agents. When he expressed his wish to terminate the service, he was informed that he must pay a cancellation fee of R2,600. We find it deeply concerning that Cartrack continued to debit his account after the contract had expired—without proper notification—and is now demanding a cancellation fee instead of offsetting it against the funds debited post-contract. As a pensioner, this situation has caused my father significant distress and financial hardship. We respectfully request a full investigation into this matter and a fair resolution, including: 1. A refund of all amounts debited after the contract expiry in January 2023. 2. Immediate cancellation of the account without penalty. 3. Written confirmation that the matter has been resolved.

Good day.

I am writing to express my deep concern and disappointment regarding the continued harassment my father has endured, despite my previous communication in which I stated: “As a pensioner, this situation has caused my father significant distress.”

Most troubling is an incident involving a gentleman named Kabelo, who went as far as telling my father that he “will not have peace until he provides his ID number.” This was said after my father simply queried why his ID number was being repeatedly requested. Such conduct is not only inappropriate but has further exacerbated the emotional strain on him.

I kindly urge you to look into this matter and ensure that my father is treated with the respect and dignity he deserves.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Warm regards,
