Car malfunctioning after installation
Well, well, well… I really tried to give Cartheck another chance, and I’m honestly regretting it.
Yesterday at around 12:30 PM, I reactivated my account with the help of Elizabeth Chirua, who was actually great. She assisted me quickly and arranged for a same-day installation. The technician, Sean ***ell, arrived between 3–4 PM and completed the installation around 6:30 PM.
Everything seemed fine… until this morning.
At around 8 AM, when I started my car to prepare for a trip, it began malfunctioning. The doors were locking and unlocking on their own, and the system kept alerting that the key was inside the car—even when it shouldn’t have. These are issues I have never experienced before.
Naturally, I panicked.
I tried contacting Sean directly with no success. I then called Cartheck and was passed from pillar to post between Glenda, Ntuthuko, Thabang and Sarita (and 2 other i forgot their names at this point) —none of whom could provide a simple solution like dispatching a technician to fix what is clearly an installation-related issue. Shaving spoke jargon as if I was his colleague and refused to provide reference for the call nor his surname which is extremely concerning.
I was then referred to a lady called Ndovhani from customer care department, who despite me providing my ID and contact number and advised I've been on the line for so long, i might get disconnected and kindly request a call back in that event, she never did once the call got disconnected. She tells me because a Pro rata amount haven't been deducted from my account (which i made funds available for after my call with Elizabeth the day prior) she would have to ask me to hold so she speaks to another department. At this point I am fuming because not only am I running out of time for my travel and will evidently miss my departure time, I was about to travel with a car that may unlock it's and possibly get ******. And with my account said to not be active yet, who says when I call for help my car will be searched for and recovered.
I am extremely freaked out at this very moment because I don't have an alternative means of transportation or funds laying around to rent a car i didn't budget for.
So now I’m left asking: how does that justify leaving me with a malfunctioning vehicle after installation?
Am I expected to travel in a car that is clearly not functioning properly? That’s not just inconvenient—it’s unsafe.
At this point, I am requesting one of two things: • A technician to be sent out to my home before 11 AM today to fix this issue, OR • The immediate removal of the unit from my vehicle at said time of 11AM. • A technician be sent to my destination to rectify whatever is wrong with the car.
Cartrack as an entity may be good but their employees just insist on shaming the reputation of the company. It continues to disappoint when it matters most. I genuinely regret giving this service another chance, hoping things had improved over time.
I need this matter resolved urgently.
Thank you for making us aware of this issue. Please accept our apology for the inconvenience. We will investigate and are confident that this matter will be clarified.
Kind regards
The Cartrack Team

I did my research and this is the findings:
It is highly likely that the installation of the tracking device is the culprit. In Mitsubishi vehicles, the Keyless Operation System (KOS) is quite sensitive to electrical interference and voltage drops.
Since the errors started immediately after the tracker was fitted, here are the most probable causes and how to address them:
1. Signal Interference (The most likely culprit)
Tracking devices emit radio frequencies (GPS/GSM) to communicate. If the tracker was installed too close to one of the KOS antennas (which are hidden inside the dashboard, center console, and rear of the ASX), it can "drown out" the signal from your key fob.
The Symptom: The car thinks the key is still inside when you leave, or can't "see" it while idling, triggering the "Key Still in Vehicle" or "Service Required" warning.
The Fix: The tracker may need to be relocated to a different part of the dash, further away from the car's internal antennas.
2. CAN bus Interference
Modern trackers are often tapped into the vehicle's CAN bus (the "nervous system" of the car) to monitor data. If the tracker was wired incorrectly or is sending "noise" into the system, it can confuse the ECU (engine control unit), causing it to throw the "Keyless Service Required" error.
The Fix: A technician should verify that the tracker is using a clean power source and isn't interfering with the vehicle's data lines.
3. Voltage Drop
The ASX's keyless system is notoriously finicky about battery voltage. If the installers left the doors open or the ignition on for a long time during the fitment, the car battery might have dropped below a certain threshold.
The Fix: Try charging your car battery fully or taking it for a long drive. Sometimes, a low battery triggers "ghost" errors in the KOS system that persist until the system is reset.
4. Key Fob Battery
It might be a total coincidence, but the "Keyless Service Required" message is also the car’s way of saying the key fob battery is low.
The Fix: Replace the battery in your key fob (typically a CR2032). It’s a cheap, 2-minute fix that rules out one variable.
Recommended Next Steps:
Contact the Installers: Take the car back to the tracking company. Tell them specifically that the Keyless Operation System (KOS) is throwing errors since the install. They should check the placement of the unit.
Diagnostic Scan: If the errors persist, a mechanic with a Mitsubishi-specific scan tool (MUT-III) can read the specific fault code. It will likely say "Antenna Interference" or "Communication Error," which proves the tracker is the cause.
Emergency Start: If the "Keyless Service Required" error prevents the car from starting, remember you can usually start a Mitsubishi by physically pressing the Start/Stop button with the tip of the key fob.
Cartrack is liable for all these errors and I want it fixed ASAP

When you do decide to reply to this, send a technician to remove your device, return my car to exactly how it was prior to the installation (meaning no malfunctions or alert on my dash) and cancel our contract.
This is pathetic service at the highest order!

Following my previous report, there has been a suspicious development. This morning (Tuesday 28/04/2026), for the first time since the installation, my Mitsubishi ASX stopped displaying the 'Keyless Service' and 'Key Still in Vehicle' errors. However, at that exact same time, the Cartrack app stopped tracking my vehicle entirely.
My vehicle traveled from 06:30 to 07:30 this morning, yet the app shows the car has been stationary at my residence for over 14 hours. It appears the unit has either failed or been remotely 'silenced' by Cartrack. This confirms my suspicion: when the tracker is active/transmitting, it interferes with my car's electronics; when it is offline, my car is fine. I have screenshots of all this evidence.
Cartrack is now sending a technician but warned me of a call-out fee if they 'find it’s not the device.' I find this predatory, given that the evidence clearly links the device to the vehicle's malfunction.
I am now demanding a full removal of the unit and a cancellation of the contract without penalty, as the service has been unreliable and the installation has compromised my vehicle's electronics.
Wow, Cartrack!!!

Wow, Cartrack!!!
Following my previous reports regarding electrical interference in my Mitsubishi ASX, a technician named Eugene visited my residence today at 9:30 am.
Upon his arrival, I immediately pointed out a major discrepancy: the Cartrack app indicated that the vehicle was currently "Driving" in Krugersdorp, despite the car being parked in front of us since 7:30 am. Eugene attributed this to "signal delay," which is a significant red flag. It is unacceptable for a tracking service to have a 3-hour lag in reporting a vehicle's whereabouts—especially after I was left stranded over the long weekend, afraid to use my car due to malfunctions.
In contrast to the initial installer (Sean), Eugene appeared more clued up and somewhat transparent. To isolate the cause of the "Keyless Service Required" and "Key In Car" errors, I insisted on the complete removal of the tracking unit. Since the removal, the error messages have ceased (as of 12:45 pm).
Eugene advised that I monitor the vehicle over the next few days, including the upcoming long weekend. He confirmed that if the errors return, or if we need to verify the impact of the installation, the vehicle will be taken to Mitsubishi for a full diagnostic scan with both of us present. Eugene stated that Cartrack will be liable for all diagnostic fees should the findings link the errors to the installation or the unit's presence.
While I appreciate Eugene’s transparency, I remain cautious. If the errors do not return during this period, I remain uncomfortabl having the unit re-installed. I refuse to risk further inconvenience, loss of resources, or further compromise to my vehicle's electronics. My intent remains to cancel this contract altogether based on this experience for poor service. I had absolutely no peace of mind knowing my car was safe literally hours after installation because the car was malfunctioning.

When i spoke to Elizabeth Chirwa on Friday 24th to activate my account and send installer same day, she advised of a Pro rata amount of R40something that will be debited on my account which we both rounded off to R50 and I allocated funds for it accordingly. Lizzy (as i called her) advised the debit would go off the next day (Saturday the 25th) once an installer had installed the unit. The same Saturday that I began to experience issues with the car and the same initial installer failed to fix the issue. He downright said he didn't know what was the issue and removed the terminals from the battery. Within an hour of his "reboot" the errors were back and the car was malfunctioning through my trip to North West.
To now receive a message that not only did you attempt to debit my account of an amount of R70, had me incur fees, you deem me "in default" is unbelievable.
I sent you a detailed email yesterday and copied the ombudsman to say I want the contract cancelled since the removal of your device, refunded for the fee due to a failed debit.
I attached proof of the inconvenience I experience during the 3 days I was left stranded and the loss of money I incurred as a result. But instead of addressing that you keep attempting to debit from my account.
Wow
