A Masterclass in Customer Service Excellence: My Cartrack Odyssey

A Masterclass in Customer Service Excellence: My Cartrack Odyssey

To the ever-diligent Thembelo Sambo—oh, glorious savior of my Cartrack contract—I extend my most sincere gratitude. Without your heroic intervention, I might have foolishly abandoned my three-year commitment, a decision that would have surely left Cartrack’s financial department weeping into their spreadsheets. Truly, you are a beacon of competence in what appears to be a vast sea of… alternative problem-solving techniques. The rest of Cartrack’s staff should take extensive notes—perhaps in a notebook, or, if that’s too advanced, on a napkin.

Now, allow me to recount my delightful journey, a saga of bureaucratic brilliance that would make Kafka nod in weary recognition.

I, a humble customer, opted for Cartrack’s three-year package for two vehicles—complete with tracking and cameras—because nothing says "peace of mind" like a company that treats invoices as abstract art. I wisely declined the debit order option, as my trust in automated payments is roughly equivalent to my faith in a sieve holding water. Instead, I was instructed to pay three months in advance, which I dutifully did on the 4th of July, following the prorata invoice provided by Cartrack themselves.

Lo and behold, on the 11th of July, I received a call informing me that I owed them money for the very same prorata I had already paid. A fascinating concept, really—paying in advance only to be told you’re in arrears. By my rudimentary calculations, if my payment cycle begins on the 25th and I paid on the 4th, Cartrack should have been paying me. But alas, my grasp of mathematics is clearly no match for their innovative accounting strategies.

Resolving this issue was an absolute joy. Picture this: endless phone calls that drained my airtime (and will to live), WhatsApp chats that moved at the speed of continental drift, and emails that may as well have been launched into the void. The WhatsApp support? A comedy goldmine. You begin your query at dawn, only to receive an "escalation" message by dusk—followed by a daily ritual of re-introducing yourself, as if the previous 12 days of correspondence were but a dream.

"What is your ID number?" "To which email should we send the invoice?" Ah, yes, because after two weeks, my identity remains an enigma—a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside a support ticket.

And the emails! Five or six dispatched into the ether, like messages in bottles. At this point, I suspect Cartrack’s preferred method of communication is carrier ***eon, or perhaps smoke signals. The callback feature on the app? A marvel of modern engineering—clearly running on Morse code with a misplaced decoder. Eighteen callback requests yielded one response, on the 16th of July. Efficiency at its finest.

So, once again, thank you, Thembelo Sambo, for being the one functional cog in this Rube Goldberg machine of customer service. May your colleagues someday ascend to your level of basic competence.

Until then, I shall cherish this experience as one cherishes a root canal—painful, but with a faint hope of eventual resolution.

Yours in bureaucratic awe, You Will know who I am
