Shockingly Overpriced Service Experience at Car Service City: A Tale of Miscommunication
I recently had a shockingly overpriced and deeply disappointing experience with Car Service City, specifically the Gardens branch, which I feel compelled to share as a cautionary tale, underlining the critical issue of miscommunication.
When I brought my vehicle in for service and repairs, I initially expected a minor service costing around R1500, based on the morning's quotation. However, the reality I faced was far from what I had anticipated. After agreeing to additional work during a phone call with their representative, I genuinely believed I was agreeing to a total cost of R7000.
To my absolute astonishment, when I received the final invoice, it amounted to a staggering R17,000. This discrepancy between my understanding and the actual cost has had a severe impact on my well-being and budget, leaving me emotionally and financially strained.
It is crucial to note that this shocking increase in price appears to be the result of a miscommunication between the agent and myself. When the agent rang to provide the new quote, I heard "R7,000" and not "R17,000." I believe that any work leading to such a significant increase in price should have been shared via email or written communication, providing a transparent breakdown of the additional costs. This would have allowed me to make an informed decision about the services I was agreeing to, rather than feeling like I was put on the spot to make a quick decision during a phone call.
The absence of such written communication has left me feeling blindsided by the unexpected and astronomical increase in the invoice amount. I hoped that an industry that has such a bad reputation for prioritizing profit over customer interests would at least try to meet me halfway and find a compromise before sharing this experience publicly. Unfortunately, Car Service City does not seem interested in finding a resolution.
I want to share my experience to caution others about the potential for miscommunication and the importance of clear and written confirmation when agreeing to any additional work. I have reached out to the Retail Motor Industry Organisation in hopes of finding a just resolution to this matter.
Please be cautious when considering Car Service City for your vehicle servicing needs, and be aware of the possibility of miscommunication that could result in an unjust and crippling financial burden.
