Huge quotes all the time!

My daughter took her car in to Car Service City Bruma for a service. She mentioned the gears and clutch were a bit sticky and after the diagnosis she was told they needed to Strip & Fit gearbox Clutch Kit which included Clutch kit, Gearbox Oil, Skim flywheel, Rear main seal, Consumables and Clutch cables. On the diagnosis there was mention of ‘not engage gears’ so she thought this was included too. After paying R9.4k and having to fight with the insurance to get some money back, the car was ‘fixed’ and she drove it home. A while later she noticed that the gears had begun to stick again and now a burning smell too. She took it back to Car Service City, thinking it might be a lubricant issue, or something simple. She was told it was the gear bushes and we were told that they will try find the bushes which would be a cheap fix, but if not, they would have to get the entire cable. Obviously they couldn’t find the bushes and have now quoted us R8.8k for ‘Gear selector cables complete with bushes’.

On the service quote plus the clutch quote there was also mention of the cambelt needing to be replaced. My daughter took it for replacement at another mechanic and after he had taken the cambelt out, informed her that the cambelt was still in good condition and didn’t need to be replaced after the next two services.

Also, while the car was there overnight, they cracked the back window and when my daughter went to fetch the car, it was blocked in by other cars and she was told she must come back later. Because she wanted to get a second opinion asap, she insisted on the car being moved out and once it was out, she saw the window. No mention of this was given when she was there for the last 2 hours!
