Disgusting Service & Business - Car Service City Modderfontein

I took my car (Ford Ranger Wildtrak) for what was supposed to be a major service this morning and the start of the service was bad from the get go with the owner rocking up late. After waiting for the doors to open I was finally helped.

When booking my car in, the lady at reception did the pre inspection with me and marked all the scratches and chips on the window. Other than that the car is in perfect condition.

My car was the only one there the whole day for a service and got the call at 11:43 to say the car is ready.

When I arrived to fetch my car I immediately noticed my left side step was badly damaged and when I confronted the owner he denied everything saying he took the car for a test drive and he didn’t bump anything. When I got on the floor to assess the bottom, I noticed there were no scratches but marks further under on the plastics which then made me realize the damage is from the car being lifted or jacked up. He argued with me saying they didn’t lift the car and it was like that on arrival to which I called the receptionist who did the inspection and asked her if that was there as it wasn’t on the inspection report. She didn’t want to say as she seemed to be afraid of the owner. I then asked how did you change the oil if you didn’t lift it and then he said they did lift it to drain it.

I then asked for the report of all the checks that were done to which the owner then said it wasn’t done as the mechanic had an emergency. The mechanic was never at work in the first place so the 62 point check which is included in the service wasn’t done and I was never informed that it could not be done. Only when I asked about it, I was told I must come back to have it done. I refused as this is an inconvenience to me as the client and should’ve been informed prior to working on my car. I told the owner I cannot pay just under R4000 for a job that hasn’t been done. He argued again and said the service was done. All they did was change the oil filter, air filter and the oil. Not even the spark plugs were changed. He then went on to tell me the labour was just over 2 hours to which I said is impossible as I could change those 3 things in 20 minutes. He then took my car keys and told me he wont release my car. He then called head office and spoke to a guy called Peter who was extremely rude and arrogant saying I must pay or I don’t get my car as I signed the paperwork.

I then asked to see the camera footage and once again there was an excuse that he cant get the footage now as he needed a password. He is the owner of the business, how does he not have the password? So he basically held me ransom and said the only way to get my car was to pay.

When I asked if the mechanic had a certificate, he told me he doesn’t as he’s just the assistant. Again, why was I not informed that the person working on my car was not qualified to do so?
