Car Service City Head Office and Stonewood Branch- ********* and Unprofessional

I booked an appointment at Car Service City Stonewood on 10 July 2026 for a brake inspection and any necessary repairs on the brakes. I was told the estimated repairs would cost approximately R5,500.

When I booked the vehicle, I was expecting it to be completed that day. I dropped it off at 07:00, but later in the afternoon I was told the vehicle would have to remain overnight. I was initially told that the wheels/bearings had already been removed and that the vehicle could not be returned, and later I was told there were two vehicles ahead of mine.

I eventually insisted on collecting my car and was charged R684.25 for the inspection, despite not proceeding with the recommended repairs. I subsequently requested the written inspection report and quotation, but despite following up by phone, WhatsApp and email, I never received the inspection report. (I called their head office a few times and was promised the report today 17 Aug 2026, which has still not been emailed).

Because I could not get the requested report, I obtained an independent inspection from another company. I was advised that the brake pads and discs did not require replacement, which conflicted with the diagnosis I had received from Car Service City. The independent inspection also did not result in an inspection fee being charged.

There was also confusion regarding a R400 discount that I had been told I would receive if I proceeded with a quotation, but I was subsequently told that this did not apply to the inspection fee.

What concerns me most is the combination of the conflicting explanations, the inspection fee, the failure to provide the inspection report and the conflicting diagnosis. I also requested confirmation that the vehicle had been correctly reassembled and returned in a safe and roadworthy condition after being told that the wheels and bearings had been removed.

I gave Car Service City an opportunity to resolve the matter and requested a refund of the R684.25, but the matter remains unresolved. Their latest response states that they are willing to reconsider the matter if I provide the independent report, but they refuse to provide an inspection report or refund the inspection fee.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend Car Service City Stonewood for vehicle inspections or repairs without getting everything in writing beforehand, including the inspection findings, quotation, work to be performed and all applicable fees. I spoke to someone at the gym the other day and another guy walking by commented about the poor and unprofessional service he got.

I will never make use of this unprofessional and ********* company. The are the worst, save yourself the trouble and money and go to a reputable company instead.
