Stay away from CAR REP

In September 2017 I bought a vehicle from CAR REP in boksburg (2008 Opel Corsa OPC). Upon viewing the vehicle the car sales person inform me that all is well with the car and that the engine and gear box is 100% as the car was recently overhauled, reason for overhauling was due to the age of the car, car has no accident history however was sprayed in a few places due to the paint fading.

On the declaration form they declared that the car has no faults.

Within the first week I had to take the car back due to some issues that I have picked up, Sun Roof jamming, Central locking System not working properly, one tyre had a slow puncture (was replaced with a second hand tyre), drivers side mirror was not working (not fixed up to date), sound system had some faults (was fixed only for the moment), wind screen wash bottle neck was missing (they could not find it in their work shop and wont be able to replace it as it is not covered under their warranty).

A few weeks thereafter the cars started smoking , so I took it back to them, they stated it is due to a mapping issue, this issue went on for quite some time, I then picked up a oil leak from the turbo pipe was told that the brass washer needed to be replace, which they did replace, however the smoking issue was never resolved by them, I was told thereafter that the car is smoking due to the car having bigger injector and that the O2 sensors where damaged and they have replaced them(which was a lie, the car has standard injectors and the O2 sensors where never damage) when I took the car to an OPC specialist they informed me that the O2 sensors where never replaced and the cause of the car smoking was due to the airflow meter being damaged, which was replaced by my 2 year optional warranty . All that CAR REP was doing for the first 6 months was clearing the error codes of the vehicle each time I took the car to them.

CAR REP stringed me along for the first 6 months as they knew that once the 6 months were over I cloud not take any action against them via the ombudsman as they time frame would have passed.

About 2 months ago, they car started losing water and smoking again, when I checked the engine I noticed a small oil leak from the cylinder head, I made an appointment at PRP Garage who specializes in OPC's, (great team of professionals and I can vouch for them along with many others for their excellent service). They have showed me that the car had a cylinder head which was cracked and repaired very poorly as the cylinder head was stuck on with silicon, hence the car being overhauled in the first place. So this tells me that CAR REP knew about the engine trouble all along but made excuses not to take responsibility in repairing the vehicle.

I have logged a claim with my warranty (Innovation Group) who has rejected the claim, leading to me paying for the damages out of my own pocket. I am still fighting with my warranty company regarding this issue as I was not aware that the vehicle had a cracked cylinder when purchased. Innovation Group has called CAR REP for info, whereby CAR REP has given Innovation Group incorrect info as started below.

Message from Innovation Group to me: Kindly be advised that the matter was escalated and the following was confirmed :

• The dealer reported that the vehicle was brought in for an oil leak and it was smoking • Cause : Overheated, cylinder cracked, valve stem leaking • Remedy : Replace cylinder head with 6 months warranty • It was confirmed that the vehicle was purchased with this problem in September 2017 • The dealer confirmed that after purchasing the vehicle you took the vehicle back several times to the selling until their warranty on the vehicle ran out • You then put the claim through on this warranty that was purchased September 2017

this does not make any sense, if I only knew that the car was not in tip top conditions I would not have purchased the vehicle in the first place.
