Account Settlement

Hi I had acount with Capfin some year's ago,and I had some issues paying off the account and it was handed over to Brooks and luyt inc and the year 2019 I paid it off.This year 2021 Capfin had listed me on credit beareu stating that I still owe them how come?I called the debt collectors "Brooks and luyt inc and asked them what happened to my account they told me it was settled long ago in 2019.So why Capfin took so long to contact me and demand their money because I paid their money through their debt collectors which is Brooks and luyt inc.
