Unacceptable service and extremely rude staff
I had a massively unpleasant experience at Cape Union Mart in Tygervalley with the staff being astonishingly rude while I was making a transaction worth thousands of rands. Shaylene, who pretended to be some kind of manager was at the forefront of this and declined to assist me and actually instructed the cashier to cancel the transaction.
I returned to the store later and she actually had the nerve to ask “Oh are you back now? So I’m no longer rude?” This is a comment that definitely warrants disciplinary action.
If I had any other choice, I would not have returned, but due to the short notice and urgent nature of my trip, I was forced to make the purchase. I cannot believe that you treat customers that regularly spend large amounts of money at your store due to the nature of their work/holiday plans this way. It is completely unacceptable and I would recommend that people avoid Cape Union Mart as far as possible. I have been struggling to lodge a complaint for more that a week now, all that I am told is that my complaint has been escalated and that a manager will contact me immediately, this obviously never happened.
Upon my return, Shaylene decided that she was not going to help me and thought it well to call over a colleague to discuss me (this was very obvious as she pointed at me while having a discussion with her colleague) while I waited for someone to assist me while she was ignoring me, a paying customer.
In this entire thing, the only person that assisted me was Saajidah (she was being very helpful and retained the products that I wanted to purchase.) I am pretty sure that Shaylene was angry at her for doing this if I read the cues and s***ls toward Saajidah correctly. I was informed by a source in the store that Shaylene had been pointing out and discussing customers with other staff. This is also an action that warrants disciplinary action as I am pretty sure that some of the things that she did amounts to defamation.
I cannot believe that you employ employees who behave like children and actually entrust them with some kind of authority when they simply chase customers away. This is not the first time that this has happened at this store, I saw it happen before as well. There are clearly problems that need to be sorted out, it seems as if there is absolutely no oversight.
I will be taking my business elsewhere and I recommend that others do the same.
