18 Months Without My Vehicle & Counting...
18 Months Without My Vehicle – A Detailed Warning About My Experience with Cape Rover / Rovermaxx / Philippi Motors I do not write negative reviews lightly, but after approximately 18 months of delays, missed commitments, failed repairs, and ongoing frustration, I feel a responsibility to share my experience so that others can make an informed decision. This review relates to my direct experience with the workshop operating from 4 Becker Road, Lansdowne, trading under the names Cape Rover, Cape Rover Parts, Rovermaxx, Mahen Rovermaxx, and Philippi Motors. My primary contact throughout this process was Mahendra "Mahen" Naicker. I entrusted my Land Rover Discovery 4 3.0 TD/SD V6 HSE to this workshop in late 2024 for major repairs, including a full engine rebuild and replacement of both turbochargers. I paid the requested amounts in good faith and was assured that the vehicle would be repaired professionally and returned within a reasonable timeframe. What followed was a cycle of repeated delays, missed deadlines, inconsistent communication, and assurances that the vehicle would soon be completed. Over the following months, I repeatedly requested updates via WhatsApp, phone calls, and messages. In my experience, communication was often vague, timelines regularly changed, and commitments made were not honoured. After many months, I was finally informed that the vehicle was ready for collection. By this stage, I had paid the account in full. I collected the vehicle and drove it home, believing the ordeal was finally over. The next day, I discovered a significant puddle of oil underneath the vehicle. The vehicle also lacked power and would not accelerate beyond approximately 100 km/h. As the repairs were supposedly covered by warranty, I immediately returned the vehicle to the workshop for these issues to be rectified. That was more than six months ago. As of 22 June 2026, I still do not have my vehicle back. In total, my vehicle has been unavailable to me for approximately 18 months since it was first entrusted to this workshop. Despite paying for extensive repairs, including a full engine rebuild and replacement of both turbochargers, I remain without a functioning vehicle. The most frustrating aspect of this experience has not only been the delays but the repeated assurances that the vehicle would be ready, followed by missed commitments and changing explanations. In my experience, the information provided regarding completion dates, progress updates, and expected outcomes has often proven unreliable. The consequences have been significant: • I paid the repair costs in full. • I have been without my vehicle for approximately 18 months. • I have incurred substantial transport, insurance, and administrative costs. • My vehicle has depreciated significantly during this period. • I have spent countless hours following up, requesting updates, and trying to obtain clear information. • I have experienced considerable stress and inconvenience. My expectation was simple: professional repairs completed within a reasonable timeframe, backed by honest communication, accountability, and workmanship that reflected the amounts paid. That has not been my experience. If you are considering using this business, DON'T! There's no precautions you can take that will safeguard you from disappointment. DO NOT BE TEMPETED This review reflects my personal experience and is supported by invoices, payment records, WhatsApp conversations, photographs, and other documentation. As of today, I am still waiting for my vehicle to be returned in the condition I paid for.
