<p>Cape Medical formulary only caters for Bipolar Type 1 – NOT type 2</p> <p>I have been a member on Cape Medical plan for longer than ten years.</p> <p>Was diagnosed as a Bipolar Type 2 after birth of my firstborn in 2007.</p> <p>I have had to pay since inception for the anti depressants required by a type2 bipolar, because CMP formulary only has stabilizers, anti pshycotics and one or two anti depressants causing hypomania available. I have been up and down with various dr’s motivating why they should add Wellbutrin / Cymgen to their list with no luck.</p> <p>I have tried almost everything on their list, and all I have to show after 10 years is a lifetime of hypomanic episodes caused by medication suitable for bipolar type 1. Major uncontrolled depressive episodes in periods where I couldn’t afford to get the medication myself. I was also blessed with an unplanned child that turned out to be disabled as a result of formulary medication used. My family and I have had no quality of life because of this problem which would have been simply solved by adding medication to their formulary which Sizwe and others have on their list. Cape Medical aid stole the opportunity of us having a normal decent life and I hate what our life became because off their ******** “Stand off” careless attitude. I am bitter if I think of how my career could have been different. Cape Medical Plan formulary disabled me for life.</p> <p>I am not one for abusing the systems, and needed hospitalisation about 4 times in the past 9 years, but didn’t go. The dr’s also tried to get the medication paid by pointing out that I wasn’t admitted on any of those occasions, but CMP wanted the dr to promise that there wouldn’t be any future admissions if they pay for the medication which she wasn’t prepared to ethically commit to.</p> <p>My first admission for bipolar was this year, and the message to my husband was: “Sorry for you, we pay R 1600 per day, and the rest is for your account”. The benefits reduced since the time we joined, but premiums increased. Where in-hospital cost at Life hospital was previously covered fully we are now responsible ourselves for the open checkbook ? Has Cape Medical Plan regressed to only being able to cover the Parrow area now ?</p> <p>Cape Medical – “We care” ??? Why don’t you just chase all the PMB patients into the sea so you can spend all the contributions on who knows what …</p> <p>Nothing can give back, or rectify what was ****** from my family by Cape Medical Plan… I am not sure why I allowed this “stand off” to cary on for 9 years, because it completely ruined my life, my children’s life, with my husband ready to hang himself in the garage.</p> <p>Cape Medical Plan – WE CARE NOT: The formulary is the doctor, The PMB patient is the devil, and the government hospital is the future.</p>
