******* by 'accredited' DSTV installer

I called out a DSTV installer/technician that I found on an advertising site to come and see why our DSTV was not working after we moved in to our new home. I chose him because he worked in our area and specifically because he explained that his call out fee was R350 and that it included the first hour's work. Work thereafter would be charged at R150. Being a on very tight budget, this seemed like the best option. Needless to say, it seems I picked the wrong guy! After spending just over an hour trying to work out the problem, it appeared that the problem was solved, all we had to do was call DSTV to switch our primary decoder details. We said that we would call him back if it didn't work as we didn't want to take up any more of his payable time. At this point - we had signal on our TV and it looked like we were set. Upon receiving the invoice - I was horrified to see that the bill was R980!! He charged R350 call out, R200 labour, R180 for a 2 way splitter and R250 for dish reconnection! When I argued about the 'Call out fee covers first hour labour' he was full of stupid excuses and as for the dish reconnection....why is that not considered labour? We did not win the argument as he had an answer for everything. We decided to pay and then to take it up with his Boss who he said was Brendon from Cape Digital Satellite and the man whose details were on the invoice. At this point our neighbour above, who shares the dish with us, called the technician upstairs as he said his signal was not good. Next thing we know our technician is hanging over the balcony above with a broom fiddling with the dish settings that we had just paid R980 for! And with that we lost our signal once more. The technician then left and said he would come back the next day as it was very late. Needless to say my husband complained to Brendon about the charges on the invoice and the service the following day and he promised to get his technician to come back. Despite making three appointments he has never pitched again. So my husband contacted Brendon again from Cape Digital Satellite who said it was not his problem as we contacted the technician, not him directly. When my Husband said the technician gave him a Tax Invoice in the name of his company, he said it was not his problem that the guy had taken his book. And promptly put the phone down on my husband. So 'reputable' Cape Digital Satellite uses ***** sub-contractors and then does not claim responsibility when the client is ********** and the job is not complete. This from an 'Accredited' DSTV installer who is advertising his business everywhere in Cape Town. I am now R980 out of pocket with no DSTV and our upstairs neighbour is completely without signal. I am horrified that in a day and age when competition is fierce and economic times are tight that service and treatment of customers means nothing. This is nothing more than ****************!
