I dropped my DSLR off with Nick a week before SA's first major lockdown back in March 2021 not knowing we were about to go into a national lockdown to have him look at my flip screen on the camera.

My DSLR was still under 10,000 images so was still fairly new, however, my flip screen was faulty, and asked him if he could look at it.

I had left my wife and child in the car on the street so was in a rush and his admin lady asked me to sign a document that proved I had dropped the camera off, but you never quite go through all the T and C's other than reading the inspection fee you would pay if you did not go ahead with their quote, which I was happy to do. I was then phoned 2 days just before lockdown to say the repair would cost R3500 which I did not feel was worth it, so told Nick I would pay the assessment fee and come and pick up the camera as soon as I could.

We then went into a national lockdown, and we all know how that went. We all just tried to survive especially us smaller businesses.

What I was not told when I dropped the camera off was if you don't pick up your camera after 21 days they have the right to get rid of the camera. This is something that SHOULD be highlighted to each customer when dropping off their camera. When I emailed them to ask if I could come pick up the camera I was told they had disposed of the camera, as per their T n C's!

I will try and keep this short, but that is the story. When I called Nick all he said was sorry, and it was part of their T n C's. Who in their right mind sticks to their TnC's when the country has been in a national lockdown and one cant travel?

COuld you have not simply CALLED me on my mobile to tell me you were about to dispose of my camera?

Surely that is the right thing to do?

This is absolutely disgusting, and ******** in my opinion what Camera Clinic did, and I don't have a leg to stand on because I signed their TnC's, which I don't dispute, but a bit of common decency in reaching out to a customer to let them know they are about to dispose (or sell) my camera and to at least give the customer some sort of warning.
