Arrogance of management Camdeboo Cottages Graaf-Reinette

We booked accommodation at Camdeboo Cottages at Graaf-Reinette for one evening’s stay on Sunday, the 8th of December 2019. We were well received. We were showed parking in the courtyard. As we had 2 large dogs, a trailer (which was difficult to unhitch and move around) and a lot of luggage, we preferred to park close to our cottage door. The cottage allocated for our stay was in the street front. The lady who received us assured us that the parking in the street front was safe and secure. She furthermore re-assured us that the vehicle and trailer would be totally safe if parked in the street because there were CCTV cameras monitoring the street area and the street was patrolled every 15 minutes. There were also no “parking at own risk” boards visible. We parked off the street in a slipway close to our door. Early the next morning we discovered that the trailer had been broken into and the locks broken off. The majority of items were missing and the remainder strewn onto the street. We felt stunned and hurt. We suffered damages amounting to R6800-00. What upset us more than the loss of our goods was the attitude of the owners and management of Camdeboo Cottages. We received no support; no letter of condolence or apology. Just total silence. My lawyer wrote them a letter of demand (as the SAPS suggested) but they ignored that as well. Maybe they’re successful enough and won’t miss the loss or loyalty of 1 client.
