Honest Review of Cambrilearn (Grade 5 – 2025)

CONS: 1. Expensive! The program is costly, especially considering the additional support required. 2. CAPS Curriculum is Sub-Standard. CambriLearn does not provide sufficient printable explanations to support the already inadequate CAPS textbooks. 3. Maths (CAPS) is a Disaster. Without additional tutoring and external resources, my child would not be passing. 4. Mid-Year Exams Misaligned. Several exam questions came from topics in a new term that had not yet been covered, which is both confusing and unfair. 5. Some Live Lessons Miss the Mark. Certain live sessions were off-topic or not aligned with the current grade or term work, wasting valuable time. 6. Limited Flexibility for Families. The live lessons are scheduled during traditional school hours and terms, which doesn’t suit families with alternative schedules.

PROS: 1. Decent Online System. Once you get used to it, the platform is a helpful tool for tracking your child’s progress. 2. Responsive Support Team. The Cambrilearn support staff generally respond quickly and try to assist when contacted. 3. Social Interaction. Live lessons do offer some valuable interaction with other children, which helps with social development. 4. Dedicated Teachers (Some). A few teachers are passionate and make a strong effort to connect with and engage the students.

In Summary: For the price paid (around R20,000 for Grade 5), I expected a more self-sufficient system where my child could work independently — and ideally be ahead of the public school system — without needing extra tuition.

Unfortunately, I’ll not be returning to Cambrilearn next year. I plan to switch to an international, Christian-based curriculum that is more affordable, flexible, and globally competitive — and without the burden of the deeply flawed CAPS curriculum.

P.S. It’s no wonder so many South African children struggle with literacy and math comprehension.
