Waiting period on Medical Aid for deaf child
After being a member of Camaf for many years and having to return to the medical aid, they have put a one year waiting period on my deaf child for defective hearing. She already has cochlear implants so there is no great responsibility to the medical aid, but now I wont be able to get her seen by audiologist or anything to do with her hearing. This is the same as excluding a person who is hard of seeing from visiting the optometrist. I have emailed the Sanlam underwriter but she has not emailed me back to tell me the exact exclusion. I feel this is unfair as I have been a paying member for so many years, for both my children and I.

Your application was received by CAMAF and underwriting principles were app**** when it was noted that there was a gap of greater than 90 days of no medical aid cover. A twelve month condition specific waiting period was then imposed on your son's condition. We attempted to contact you telephonically to inform you of the waiting period however our calls were not answered.
