AWFUL EXPERIENCE. AWFUL SERVICE. WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THEM
Oh goodness. I never thought I would have to out TWO terrible reviews on CAMAF to get them to pay my claim but here it goes.
In March, right before lockdown, I sprained my ankle outside my flat. I had to be rushed to hospital. As I am on network choice, I was taken to the nearest Christian Barnard hospital. There were x rays taken and a GP's consultation. Because I was in such extreme pain, I notified the doctors I was on network choice, but did not ask explicitly for a network choice doctor for my consultation. This was because firstly I was in so much pain, and secondly, the reps who came to my accounting firm claimed that ALL visits to hospital were covered in full, provided that they are at a Netcare hospital.
The doctor sorted me out and discharged me the same day. Afterwards, I got hit with 2 claims from CAMAF, which they both denied They wanted to hold me responsible for both the x rays and the GP consult. Their reasoning was that the doctor was a non network choice doctor. For me that is absolutely ridiculous because who would, in total pain and agony, be able to refuse a doctor in a EMERGENCY situation because they aren't on the network list(and who would think to ask if they were under the impression hospital emergencies were covered)? Eventually after a whole performance, they paid the x rays (and said they would pay for the consult), but I received a notification from my doctor today stating the amount for the consult was outstanding. Phoned CAMAF only to have a particularly rude woman state that because it was a non network doctor, I am liable for the claim.
People, PLEASE convince your firms to not use this medical aid. We have had numerous complaints at our firm about them and are actively engaging with HR to not use them anymore. They look for reasons to not pay claims. They use the 'non network doctor' excuse even in emergency situations, as apparently they do not differ between emergency consults and non emergency consults (ridiculous I know). This is the way that they have managed to **** network members into paying their own claims for emergencies. If I could give zero stars I would. Now a first year article trainee not only has to pay CAMAF's sky-high premiums but a trauma bill for not refusing a non network doctor in an emergency. Nice going CAMAF.
