Autistic medication on CAMAF.
I am the mother of an autistic daughter. She is 9 years old and flagged on CAMAF system as autistic.
Mia uses Risperdal, Lorien and Ritilin Monthly (see attached prescription). I currently have R13k + in my day to day left for 2019 and my savings is depleted. This means that for a R100 drug, they would pay 80% and I pay 20% which is understandable.
CAMAF does not cover Riperdal on chronic (although she is diagnosed) which I feel needs to be managed if you belong to CAMAF. I pay currently R10 + per month and they tell me their policy don't cover this medication. The reason for no cover is unknown. If its a policy, it needs to be amended.
Now, Risperdal's generic is Risperlet and the cost is around R450.00 per month for Riperlet. So with the savings depleted, CAMAF only pay 80% of the R450.00. However, when I go to Discem I have to pay R260.00 for the Risperelet (more than my 20%). Why? According to their policy they only pay 80% of the cheapest generic.
My complaint is this: Although my policy against my package says pay ony 80% of the cheapest genric, I feel it is unacceptable that CAMAF has to make this decision by paying the cheapest generic. Autism is not a common flu where I can use panado instead of myprodol. Autism medication is anti-psychotic medication which a doctor control). With me paying currently pay over R10k per month for my package, knowing I have R13k available for 2019 and then having to pay large amounts for a generic medication is really disappointing. I have been with CAMAF for 21 years. Sad day when you have to fight for the well-being of your autistic daughter just because a policy on your package dictates the payments.
