My Basic Human Right & A Matter of Libel

I’m in the Film & TV industry in South Africa and have been for decades. I have the last few years, however, been unable to get a single day’s work because of a vicious rumour that has been disseminated amongst Crewing Agents in SA by an individual I met but once, many years ago when we were all wannabees in the business.

I realised there was a problem after a disagreement with Call-A-Crew, when other crewing agents with whom I had been communicating and who were initially eager to have me on board, changed overnight. They were suddenly no longer recruiting ‘new’ people - even with experience - and at the height of commercial seasons when business is invariably hectic! They had all obviously been advised by a third party not to use me but would not say why.

The spotlight fell on Jan Bowden, CEO of Call-a-crew, with whom incidentally and both ironically, I’ve not worked a single day in all the years of Bowden’s involvement in the industry but who nevertheless, seemed to be responsible for the vicious campaign to blacklist me amongst crewing agents, both here and I think, abroad.

I don’t know what malicious lies have been spread about me but as you know, there are always two sides of any given story.

I’ve rarely if ever been late for a call; don’t have any addictive peccadilloes - admittedly, fooled around with the girls a bit but not in any way like Harvey Weinstein - and have diligently pursued my craft with enthusiasm.

I need to know what it is that has been disseminated about me, if for no other reason but to have a good chuckle. I’ve even contacted Anonymous but to date, with no success.

There must be a disgruntled employee or scorned ***** somewhere down the line currently or previously employed by Call-A-Crew, the ES Agency, Nautilus or Radical Crew for example, who could shed light on what is a after all, a matter of crimen injuria.

I’d look forward to any exposure and something definitive to defend because I have nothing to hide. Furthermore, I have little doubt that for any one poisoned letter out there, I can rebut tenfold with some or other accolade.

Defamation aside, Bowden and the Call-a-Crew girls have been obstructing my basic human right to earn a living by disseminating baseless slander and I understandably, have a problem with this.
