Caline VIP Apartments - Unjustly cancels confirmed booking

On the 23 September 2025 I received confirmation of my Cape Town holiday booking from Caline VIP Apartments, ref no # ***1. I had paid 50% deposit of R6300. Two weeks later I called them to confirm that all was still in order and when I should pay the balance, they assured me that my booking was secure and confirmed and that I can make the balance of the payment 7 days before arrival date. Then suddenly on the 8 November 2025 I received an email from them to say that they have cancelled my booking, the reason stated was that their body corporate decided that they will only accept long stay bookings from now onwards, yet our booking was already confirmed as a short stay booking, ***. The unit was advertised on Safari Now as a short stay unit at the time of my booking. I had already paid for the return flights from JHB to CT for my wife and I and had also booked my car hire. As Caline VIP has many other apartment for rent, I requested that they provide me with alternative accommodation or find me alternative accommodation in Bloubergstrand at the same price and standard as the one I had originally booked with them, they refused and said that they will pay my deposit back. After many email requests to Caline VIP Apartments for assistance they simply refused and I battled to eventually find alternative accommodation, but much further from the beach and also at R2600 more for the same duration of stay. I tried to write a review on their site but it is not possible until you have completed your stay with them. This goes against the consumer protection act and I really hope that Hello Peter can escalate and publish this review so other holiday makers don't get caught in the same trap.
