Utterly ******. Poor service. Valentines Day ruined

Tonight my husband and I went to dinner at Butcher Block Umhlanga. Upon arrival we were seated next door at the hotel which we had agreed to over the phone when we made our reservation. Having never been into the hotel we trusted the restaurant would seat people for a meal in a decent environment. TERRIBLE. Bright lights. Bad music. No ambience. The manager agreed to accommodate us in the restaurant which we were very grateful for. We knew before going that we may have to wait for a meal, but what was to follow was unacceptable . We waited what felt like an eternity (at least an hour) after our starter for our main. The reason for the long wait was clearly because the restaurant had overbooked themselves by taking tables at the hotel next door. The kitchen looked frantic, the poor waiter was too! This is absolutely greedy on the restaurant’s behalf. The manager told us 20 minutes before our food arrived that it wouldnt be long after we had already waited about 45 minutes. The restaurant itself was half empty but food was flying next door. By 8.45pm I had completely lost my appetite. I had a few bites of my steak and couldn’t finish it. I asked for a take away packet. It didn’t end there!! Nope here is the cherry on top. We have been to the restaurant before and used the entertainer app which allows one to buy one main meal and get the second free. The app had no warning that the restaurant may select what nights you can use it. In fact we used it last on a Thursday night too! We were then informed when we asked for the bill that we couldn’t use the entertainer app. The special the waiter sold us was R290 each!!! (Stupid of us not to ask first). We questioned the use of the entertainer app with the manager and she insisted it was not the problem of the restaurant. We left both feeling ******! It is one thing paying a large sum at a restaurant and receiving great service. It’s a another thing paying an arm and a leg and feeling like you have received nothing but an over due R290 takeaway bag!! Needless to say we will be taking this up with entertainer app and will not be returning to the restaurant. I am so cross that I have even wasted further time by laying this complaint but my Valentine’s Day was absolutely ruined. Thanks Butcher Block. You may have made extra money by over booking yourself but I and possibly other unhappy customers will not be returning.
