Appalling service Gateway hospital
If there is a munis rating it would be more appropriate. Do not expect private hospital service at this hospital - equipment is faulty, mattress are old (one rolls to the center) pillows need to be folded double to form a pillow. Not to mention the arrogance and irritability by the ward staff when requesting assistance or medication. Three of us moved from the excellent service in ICU into ward 5B only to be met with appalling service. We were unable to unpack our bags and the staff would not assist any further than dumping the bags onto a chair even though none of us were able to sit up or move after surgery. We received pain medication at 7am in ICU and were only attended to after 4pm with such irritably. And follow up medication was placed on the tray next to the be with instructions to self medicate after dinner. Being unable to sit up means not being able to drink from a glass without a straw but food was simply placed on trolleys wheeled over our beds and we were told to sit up to eat but the bed remotes were on the wall behind each bed. Lying down after surgery we had to sign that we will receive stockings and leg pumps for circulation to avoid blood clots. In the ward the pumps machines were faulty and staff just shrugged their shoulders. This is what one would expect from South Africa government hospitals not THE Gateway private hospital.
