14 Mar 2023, 16:34 Discovery health is a **** Was involved in a horrific accident on the 28th January 2023 where 3 of my friends died and 4 were crippled fortunately for me I had soft tissue injuries but CAT & XRAY SCANS were done and was discharged later on the same day (I had 2 pay r1760 as the Dr's from Unitas advised their not contracted with discovery and discovery will then reimburse me) went back 2days later as my shoulder blades and neck were stiff (couldn't move) they charged me r770 which didn't make sense as they discharged me claiming I had soft tissue injuries fast forward when I claim my money from discovery I was told I need to ask Unitas hospital for a motivation letter to prove I was hospitalized due to Motor Vehicle accident so they can change the Authorization code and use my hospital benefits (as they exhausted my MSA) called Unitas and they advise I must pay another r660 for the motivation letter (which doesn't make sense as I've paid r3300 towards my medical aid and r1760 and r770 now I'm expected to pay r660 for a motivation letter that could have been acquired on the 29th or 2days after when I went for my neck and shoulders,... Now the Radiologist department of the same hospital is busy harassing me while they're aware I came in an ambulance on the 29th even worse the lady by the name lizel called my around the 15/16th February I explained everything and she advised let's log on to the discovery website which h was down as usual she then said it's fine she will get the medical report from Unitas and call discovery to ammend the Authorization Codes so they can use my hospital benefits however she only sent me an email with the statement that I owe them and today another lady from her office answers when I was following up as I received a message to pay them asked for lizel as I didn't want to re explain my self again
Dear Mr Letsoalo, your case has been reviewed. I can ascertain that the main issue you have is with Discovery Medical Aid and with the hospital itself. These issues you can take up with them directly.
However, when it comes to Burger Radiology, let me clarify: We are a separate entity to the hospital, and we strictly adhere to the medical aid rules and regulations regarding payments of any kind issued to patients who come into our practice. We also only charge medical aid rates, as set out by the various medical aids operating in South Africa. Please note: it is every patient’s responsibility to ensure that they are fully versed in their own benefits and restrictions of their chosen medical aid.
The fact that you were not admitted as a patient to Unitas Hospital (as you claimed) but were discharged from the ER department, means that you (or your medical aid provider) are liable for payment of your Radiology procedures. Discovery confirmed that you have no funds available and that you had to pay the amount owing for your radiology procedures. My staff assisted you in every way, as I have seen from the emails and the calls monitored by us. You were even advised that if you sent the Motor Vehicle Accident report to Discovery (as per the rules set by Discovery themselves), your case would be reviewed by them.
I can fully understand that dealing with hospitals, medical aids, and radiology can be very daunting when one has experienced severe trauma. It’s our commitment to help patients through this time as far as radiology is concerned. Regarding your medical aid or hospital issues, please direct your complaints to them as this is not our responsibility. To claim that we are / or part of a “money making scheme or pyramid scheme at our expense” is malicious and disingenuous to the medical support and services that were provided to you in your time of trauma, hence you should retract these comments.
