Pathetic Drive Thru Experience at Burger King Pietermaritzburg Chief Albert Luthuli St
I'm still fuming after my disastrous visit to Burger King on April 30th, 2025. Our drive-thru experience was an unmitigated disaster, thanks to one staff member who seemed to have a personal vendetta against customer satisfaction.
We arrived at 13:54, eager to grab lunch, but what ensued was a 32-minute ordeal that left us frustrated and disappointed. The order-taking process seemed fine, but when we collected our food, we were given Pepsi instead of Mountain Dew. Simple mistake, right? Wrong. When we politely pointed out the error, the staff member with grills/silver teeth displayed a staggering lack of customer service skills.
Instead of apologizing and offering a solution, she became defensive and inflexible, insisting we rejoin the queue to add the correct drinks. When we asked if we could simply add the R3 for Mountain Dew at the window or come inside, she refused, citing a full restaurant. It was clear she was more interested in following procedure than resolving the issue.
We were passed from one staff member to another, repeating our story and wasting precious time. The "manager" who eventually appeared apologized, but the damage was done. The staff member with grills/silver teeth eventually returned with our correct drinks but still a slight mistake because she gave us 1 cup instead of the two which we handed back so now we are there thinking is she suffering from amnesia because what is 1 cup for when we gave back two cups? Further more no apology or acknowledgment of the mistake.
This experience was a masterclass in poor customer service. Burger King, it's time to retrain your staff and prioritize customer satisfaction. Until then, I'll be taking my business elsewhere.
Key Takeaways: - Inadequate customer service from certain staff members - Lack of flexibility and problem-solving - Inefficient handling of errors - Poor communication between staff members
Burger King needs to work on its customer service skills, particularly in the drive-thru. Staff should be trained to handle errors with empathy and efficiency. Until then, customers like me will be forced to seek better experiences elsewhere.
