Worse experience and treatment of customers ever
I will try and keep this short. I do not even know if this company deserves 1 star even. My bad experience with Builders started November 2019. Somerset West branch where I was grabbed by security as I stepped out the doors and marched back by 4 people and accused of shoplifting. When I produced my slip and items, I was not even offered an apology. When I took the matter up with the Branch manager and informed him that I am a contractor and am so embarrassed and upset, I feel like taking my business elsewhere like Buco, his reply was that I must do as I like. Given the location of Builders in Somerset and Cape Gate in lieu of traffic and the location of Buco, it is much easier as a contractor to buy at Builders, yet even though contractors in comparison to the public buy every day and myself make daily purchases of average R3000 and more where public is most of the time a once off thing, the contractor must wait in the queue at the CONTRACTOR Counter for up to 40min!! In a 13 month period I have never seen all the sales people present at the counter. The attitude of the staff is poor to say the least. As a customer I have never been greeted in a friendly manner. The worst department to visit is the Goods Return department. Be prepared to waste an hour of your life. Yesterday I went to Cape Gate branch and purchased 2 items. Even though it was for my personal use, I paid at the Contractor Counter and used my business account, but paid with my personal debit card. When I arrived home, I found that 1 of the items given was larger in size. The till slip however indicated 2 of the same size. I drove all the way back to Builders Cape Gate and approached the sales person. He was more interested in the chat with his fellow colleagues than actually taking a moment to acknowledge my presence or even look at the slip. All he said was that I first have to go to the Returns department, receive a credit note and then purchase the right one. Being in a hurry, I decided not to argue. At the Return Department I was greeted by a lady that did not even look up from her computer screen. All that she mumbled was that I can put the slip on the counter. I tried to explain to her that I just quickly want to exchange the incorrect item for the correct one, as per what I paid for.... She then told me that the credit she will put on my business account and cannot give me a voucher as the system does not allow it. I then asked why not, as credits in the past for incorrect items were sometimes placed on my account, other times put back on my Builders Credit card and sometimes I was given a voucher..... She refused to listen in fact dis not even bother to have a proper look at the slip to see that I already paid for the correct item, but was given the wrong one. This was extremely frustrating and upsetting.... I then approached a gentleman inside the store and he phoned someone in accounts that confirmed that I can receive a voucher. When this gentleman approached the woman in Returns Department, she insisted that her system says that and only that. I ended up storming out Builders, throwing away a brand new item and drove to Buco to buy the correct one... Clearly Builders is making enough money. When the Construction industry opens next month there will be quite a few contractors that will not be visiting Builders anymore, rather support Buco or Brights.
