WARNING – SERIOUS ACCOUNT SECURITY & ***** CONCERN
Please be extremely careful if you have a Builders Warehouse account. We discovered unauthorised transactions on a Builders account that had not been used for more than two years. Purchases were made without our knowledge or authorisation, resulting in an astronomical amount being charged to our account. We are concerned that these purchases could take place without what we believe should be basic verification and security measures to ensure the person using the account was authorised to do so. We immediately reported the transactions as *****ulent and disputed the account. The matter was referred to RCS for investigation. However, instead of receiving a clear explanation and resolution, the matter was apparently dealt with without proper communication to us, and we subsequently received legal/demand correspondence requiring payment of the disputed amount. We did NOT make these purchases, did NOT authorise them and had not used the account for more than two years. Customers should be aware of the potential consequences of leaving old or dormant trade accounts open. Please regularly check your statements, review authorised users and cards, and immediately report any suspicious transactions. We are extremely disappointed with the way this matter has been handled and are seriously reconsidering our relationship with Builders Warehouse. We are also considering closing our business accounts with Builders across the country. Builders Warehouse and RCS – we expect a proper explanation, a transparent investigation and accountability for how these transactions were authorised and subsequently handled. This is not simply about the money. It is about account security, verification, ***** prevention and how customers are treated when they report transactions they did not authorise. I would also like to see a list of what was purchased, which branch it was purchased at and where it was delivered to, as that information is also being withheld from us. UNACCEPTABLE ***** BUILDERS WAREHOUSE
I have just received a call from the Builders Warehouse ***).
Thank you for taking the time to call and for listening to my concerns. However, after explaining the situation and requesting basic documentation relating to the alleged purchases, including what was purchased, where it was purchased, when the purchases were made, which branch was used, and where the goods were delivered, I was informed that, unfortunately, Builders Warehouse does not retain this type of information and therefore cannot assist me.
I have once again been referred back to RCS. This is extremely frustrating and, quite frankly, unacceptable.
We are being held responsible for transactions on an account that we did not make or authorise, yet the company involved cannot tell us:
- Who made the purchases;
- When the purchases were made;
- Which Builders Warehouse branch processed them;
- What was purchased;
- Where the goods were delivered;
- Who collected or received the goods; or
- What verification was used to authorise the transactions.
INEXCUSABLE.
AND NOT AN ISSUE THAT SHOULD SIMPLY BE REFERRED FROM ONE COMPANY TO ANOTHER. We need answers, documentation and accountability – not another referral.
