On 2 October I went to Builders Umgeni for some wire rope. I could not find it so I asked a very helpful assistant who took me to a shelf at ground level and pointed out a reel of wire rope marked R7.00/meter. I agreed to take 16 meters which the assistant measured and cut for me. She then scanned it and mentioned that the price for this rope was R15.00 as it was coated. I went to the floor manager and reported this as in my understanding if an item is advertised at a price the retailer must abide by that price. He refused, saying that this was a different product to that on the price label. He did offer me a 10% discount which he felt was more that adequate. Unfortunately he refused to move from this position. When asked how he knew it was different he said it has a different barcode. Naturally I cannot read barcodes or read the 3mm high description on the price label, which was at floor level. There was no other wire rope in stock. obviously Builders has no intention of taking responsibility for correct labelling of their goods, so beware!
