Rude store assistant too busy to 'assist'
On Sunday the 12th November I called SUNNINGDALE BRANCH to make enquiries about a few appliances I require for my new house. The gentlemen I spoke to (whose name I didn’t know at the time) was not very friendly or helpful. He was far more interested in the banter and conversation that was happening around him and kept laughing with his colleagues and asking me to repeat myself and I quickly got irritated and decided to end the call and rather visit the store myself. Upon making his acquaintance MONDAY he seemed nice and helpful but I quickly learned he must have been the same person I spoke to the day before because again he was very easily distracted and could not hold his attention for more than a minute without continuing his chit-chat or checking his cell phone and 4 or 5 times. We were trying to talk when I again was interrupted because he had a call (which I listened to and sounded to be a personal call) and he rudely told the person – ‘wait I need to just get rid of a customer quick, call you back’ I questioned him about this and he said that I must just take whatever I want and because I am asking too many questions. And ‘usually customers who ask so many questions end up buying nothing’ I retaliated by saying that I actually plan on spending in excess of R60 000 in your department and he said ‘good for you’ I was so annoyed and said I want his name and managers name because I am not happy with his customer service. He then very mockingly showed me his name badge and said ‘here’s my name, are you done now? Because I have to go on a break’ I then said I also want to speak to your manager please and he said ‘then come back next week miss, his not here or come back tonight or tomorrow – as long as I’m not here when you come back’ he then just stood and stared at me until I walked away and left. I was almost in tears at how impolite the assistant was to me and I immediately left the store This ADRIAN ANDREWS is rude and arrogant and should not be on front end working with customers with this condescending attitude. Why do you have assistance if customers aren’t allowed to ask questions and make enquiries about your products. I was in no way trying to be difficult and just needed some information before purchasing products that I will be using for the next few years and wanted to make informed decisions. He did not have to be so rude and sarcastic or could have just asked someone else to help if he didn’t want to. I feel he was unnecessarily intimidating and offensive towards me and I did nothing to deserve this kind of behaviour. I feel mistreated by this man who patronised me for wanting to know about products. I would like the matter to be addressed and the outcome to be shared with me. I doubt you or Builders Warehouse condones such behaviour towards your customers and look forward to your reply and/or an apology
