Price discrepancy

The cost of a 5l tin of Woodoc Marine 5l Clear is advertised at R748 on Builders Warehouse website. So I decided to visit the Strubens Valley branch where I bought a few other things and when I returned I checked my slip and found I'd been charged R898 for the 5l tin!

I tried to get help via the live chat setup on the website - filled in my details, submitted and sat waiting with no response. I then filled in the query form on the website and submitted but no response so far. This is really unacceptable and doubt if these channels even work.

So this means I've got to head back to the store to try and sort this out. I seem to think there may be a price difference between the Matt and Gloss versions of this product but nowhere is that apparent (on the website or on the shelves) and heaven forbid trying to find someone to check anything.

My biggest gripe and it goes for all branches is the lack of correct shelf talker barcode prices for each product. Strubens Valley yesterday was shocking in this regard. I bought 500g bulk steel wool, marked R220; I took it knowing it couldn't be right - correct price R66!

I had to buy a lawnmower extension cord knowing it would be quite pricey but no barcode or price in sight on the only one variety available - a shock at R630.

I looked at a lot of items in various sections and there are many items with no sign of a price or even worse, the wrong item is aligned with a bar coded price on the shelf.

I wonder what the American company who invested in Builders thought they would achieve here in SA because zero change has occurred, other than a store revamp (quite good) but I still see the sales people walking around doing their best to dodge customers and if you happen to approach one then suddenly it's not his department. Builders is just not a place that I want to ever visit again, despite their good variety and stock levels - there are other options these days. On the plus side I always (almost) find the cashiers at most branches friendly and efficient. but it's not enough to save the day as I never feel welcome when shopping there.
