Poor Kitchen Cabinet staff
Went to Builder;s Faerie Glen as I would like to redo my kitchen and want to know what products are available to do my design
The person manning the kitchen design counter is not there. I hang around, looking at things in the area. Eventually, after several minutes, I go to the information counter to encounter about a price list of carcasses etc
I get taken to the Builders' Yard, and shown the "carcasses" - which aren't carcasses, but flatpack cupboards, including doors. I start taking down the details so long - but - no prices!
So I go to the counter in the Builder's yard - sorry, we can't help you. Talk to Kitchen Design - Well, if they were there, I would. Okay, talk to the Contractors' Counter.
Get to Contractor's Counter - they have no idea what I'm talking about and can't find it on the system. Eventually they want to go to the Builder's Yard to take off the barcodes to search on the system - and are not impressed that by now so much of my time is being wasted "We're doing the best that we can" - no, you're not - the kitchen design counter can be manned, and there can be prices on the shelves.
Lo and behold, the kitchen design guy happens to walk past. Unlike the other staff, he is not even trying to be helpful. I can buy those flatpacks, or pay R300 for a design service. "I don't want design service, I wnt to design it myself" - well, you can tell them where you want the stove and fridge - "That's not design, that's planning" - well, that's what you have to do. "So, I have to pay out R300 for a service I don't want to not be given the options I want to find out what the cupboards would cost from you before I can decide whether I want it?" - That's how it works. "Do I get to assemble it myself or does that get done for me too?" - you pay 20% less if we don't assemble it. "So, I get to do the manual labour but not the thinking labour I studied to do" - if you want to do it yourself, we've got wood sheets you can buy
This is not how you go about if youwant actual construction professional to use your service, Builder's Warehouse. Firstly, the really poor staffing, pricing and training, and secondly, insisting that you do the design, even when faced with a professional designer and thirdly, wanting R300 before someone can find out what something will cost from you.
I'll probably avoid Builder's in favour of competent outlets for at least another year or so.
